Caabu would like invite you for a briefing on ISIS women and enforcers in Syria, with experienced journalist of the Middle East and author Azadeh Moaveni.

Moaveni recently spent time in southern Turkey on an assignment for the New York Times, where she interviewed three Syrian women, all former members of ISIS' morality police who had escaped to Turkey. They shared their accounts with Moaveni about working for ISIS, and living under ISIS rule in Raqqa. The New York Times piece can be read here.
Moaveni will speak about her experiences meeting these women, and the stories they shared about living in Raqqa.

About the speaker:
Azadeh Moaveni is a journalist, author, and lecturer in journalism at Kingston University. She has been reporting on the Middle East for over fifteen years; as a foreign correspondent for Time magazine and the Los Angeles Times, she has worked in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, and Iraq. She covered the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, the rise and fall of Iran's reform movement, the regional reverberations of September 11th, the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and much that has transpired since. Her work has focused on how women and girls are particularly vulnerable under unstable or authoritarian regimes. She is the author of Lipstick Jihad, Honeymoon in Tehran, and co-author, with Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi, of Iran Awakening. She is presently working on a book about women and the Islamic State.
